We renovated our barn as a labor of love for our daughter’s wedding in 2012. Its 80 year-old patina is built of nothing less than the devotion, hard work, and tenacity of the Finns that settled our corner of the Wisconsin northwoods. We carry on that tradition by working as hard to make everyone’s wedding as special as our daughter’s was.

My wife fell in love with the place the minute we walked around. Jill is a wonderful person and great to work with. She has a passion for individualizing each wedding experience and cares about your experience as if you were her own son or daughter getting married. Her venue made our day was so romantic and amazing that we cannot say enough great things about Jill and The Brule River Barn.

KICK BACK AND RELAX

We’re simple people that love simple things: digging our toes into the dirt in the garden, gliding along the Brule in a canoe, and finding that perfect piece of junk to adorn the mantel. We value drinking coffee with friends or family on a crisp fall morning more than all the luxury vacations in the world. We know that after all the stress of planning your wedding day, you want to simply enjoy being surrounded by the best people in the world as you celebrate. That’s why we make it easy for you.

Our Barn is full of so much character, the only thing you need to bring is table décor. Let your guests stroll through our gardens, or admire our painstakingly collected antiques. Spend time admiring the scenery instead of worrying about hanging banners or backdrops.

And don't worry; we've made a few modern improvements since the original Finnish settlers built the Barn. There's an open wifi network covering the whole grounds and smart TVs in the Farmhouse and Cottage. There's also very modern restrooms for all the guests at the Barn that even use sustainable practices, like using rainwater to flush the toilets.

I had so many compliments on the way that I decorated the barn and grounds, but those were the perks of having my wedding there—i didn’t have to do any of that! I loved being able to have a wedding with such simple decorations, because you honestly didn’t need anything to make the barn or grounds look any more stunning than it already was.

The Weekend Wedding Experience

We say, why should you stop at just one wedding day? Rent our entire property for the whole weekend and enjoy the company of your closest friends and family all weekend long. Take canoes down the Brule River before your rehearsal. Have a big picnic for your rehearsal dinner right on the grounds. Skip the traveling (and the leaving your flower girl’s dress behind). Take your time to set up what you want to the right way.

At the Brule River Barn, we give you the freedom and space to do what you want, when you want to better share the joy of the creation of your little family.

For 2025 events, the weekend experience includes the property from 3pm Friday to 11am Sunday.

For 2026 events and beyond, the weekend experience includes the property for 3 nights of your choice (3pm Thursday through 11am Sunday or 3pm Friday through 11am Monday).

Also included in the full weekend experience is:

  • Use of the Farmhouse, Barn, Cottage, Milkhouse, Summer Kitchen, and surrounding grounds

  • Twenty-five (25) wood-topped eight-foot rectangular tables, five (5) thirty-inch round standing cocktail tables, and approximately fifty (50) wooden chairs and three hundred (300) white folding chairs

  • Parking for you and all your guests

  • Wood and outdoor seating area for a bonfire

  • Use of a number of vintage items, such as washtubs, bins, and cupcake stands

  • Standing invitation to return for a mini-moon vacation in the Cottage*

*subject to rates and availability

My biggest regret ... is that we only rented the house/property for two nights. ... Everything was so much fun... so if I could do it all over again, I would like to have been on the property for several additional days. Your wedding event/weekend just flies by... and at least for me, it would have been cool to extend the event as long as possible and really soak it all in as it was such a great experience!
